During Kiel Week, the German Open in Wingfoil Racing was also held in Schilksee. Seventeen participants had registered to compete in the races, which were scheduled for June 25–28.

But instead of racing, it was more a matter of sweating it out; the heat wave in Europe also reached the Baltic Sea, which is usually well ventilated. Calm conditions and thunderstorm gusts characterized the course of the event. Despite the less-than-ideal water sports conditions, it was possible to hold two races during the event period, so the event can still boast some results.

Yannik Holste won both races and thus took first place in the overall standings. Pit Hausberg and Kjeld Hansen each finished second in the individual races and rounded out the podium in second and third place. Jette Koep finished fifth overall behind Kim Holste and thus won the women’s classification.

This year, two more Wingfoil Racing events will be held in Germany as part of the DWFV regattas: one in July at Saaler Boden and one in September at Lake Wittensee.
