Kickoff of the second surf-freestyle contest on the Wingfoil World Tour
The “Tarifa Wing Pro” runs from June 24 to 27, with 15,000 euros in prize money up for grabs. Twenty-eight men and 19 women will compete for the title on Valdevaqueros Beach.
The contest kicked off on Thursday with the men’s qualifying round, in which 8 out of 12 competitors secured a spot in the top 24.
For example, the two German riders, Franz Rappolder and Franz Schlittenbauer, managed to do just that, each advancing directly to the third round with a win in their first heat. The third German rider Josh Mayer also competed in his first world cup, but failed to make it into the top 24 after two heats.
From a German perspective, Benjamin May is also competing there, though he won't take the track until later in the competition. Two heats of the third round were held, with Axel Gerard and Luca Vuillermet winning their respective heats.
The first round of the women’s competition was also completed. There, surf-freestyle world champion Marie Schlittenbauer – back in action after her injury layoff – showed that her competitors will have their work cut out for them in the battle for the title during the 2026 season as well.
The German wing foiler from Stephanskirchen near Rosenheim scored the highest mark in the women’s field (17.66 points) in her heat with a back mobe and a backloop spin frontside 360.
Former surf-freestyle champion Nia Suardiaz lost to Austria’s Lilly Holzer but still has a chance to advance in the next round.
