GWA Wingfoil World Cup Tarifa 2026 - Day 3
Marie Schlittenbauer and Benjamin Castenskiold win the event in Tarifa
Tarifa has done it again. Three windy days with a Poniente wind were enough to wrap up the men’s and women’s competitions at Playa Valdevaqueros, the beach west of Tarifa near the big dune.
In the women’s contest on Friday, the first round was all about qualifying for the finals. And once again, it was Marie Schlittenbauer who posted the highest score on the water with 26.86 points.
The finals followed a similar pattern, with Marie winning the surf freestyle contest by a margin of just under four points ahead of Nia Suardiaz.
France's Milla Danguy claimed her first podium finish at a GWA World Cup with a third-place finish, while Sofia Ginzinger, a German-Spanish athlete who lives in Tarifa with her parents, finished in fourth place.
In the men's division, the Top 16 battle took place on the final day, with Benjamin Castenskiold ultimately emerging as the winner, just as he did last year. In the final, the 15-year-old Dane prevailed over Chris Macdonald by a margin of 1.5 points.
With his final trick, Tomas Acherer catapulted himself into third place on the podium, while Rocco Makana finished in fourth.

After the second surf-freestyle event of the 2026 GWA Tour, Tomas Acherer and Nia Suardiaz lead the world rankings. Marie Schlittenbauer missed the first event in Leucate due to injury and, with only one result, is in fifth place in the overall annual standings.
Three more stops in this discipline are on the GWA tour schedule: Gran Canaria in July, Fuerteventura in July/August, and Brazil in November.
