Webcam at Simssee

View from the Simssee Beach House in Krottenmühl, looking south

There’s a new webcam at Simssee in Chiemgau, Germany. It helps you assess the wind and weather conditions on the lake, which is about 5 kilometers long, so you can decide whether to head out or skip the trip depending on the situation. The image is updated every minute.

Webcam location: Beachhouse Simssee in Krottenmühl, with a view south across the lake.

The lake is located not far from Lake Chiemsee, but it doesn’t get as much wind. That’s why it’s a good idea to check the webcam. Operator Martin Blum is part of the community of about 100 water sports enthusiasts at this lake and reports that there are up to 60 days a year when the conditions are good enough for foiling.

Spot tips:
When the wind is from the west or southwest, you launch from Pietzing. Beautiful calm water, a large meadow, an easy launch, free parking—the wind usually blows diagonally onshore from the left. Wind gauge for this spot: www.openwindmap.org and www.windguru.cz

When the wind is from the east to northeast, Krottenmühl is the spot. There you can see the on-site conditions on the webcam images and, below them, a diagram showing the wind direction.
