Description

Jumping while wingfoiling works in light winds and flat water. Thanks to the foil, you don’t need a wave. Foot straps must be mounted on the board so that you do not lose it during the jump (only with a lot of experience can you jump without foot straps - in this case the wind pushes the board against your feet).

Jumping begins with the basic jump. You need this basic technique for all other jumps. To jump with a foil on flat water you need pop, i.e. an impulse for the jump. As with a stretch jump, there is a lunging movement (going low) and an active push-off (stretching). When foiling, this is determined by the immersion depth of the hydrofoil. To be more precise: you change the depth at which the hydrofoil dives into the water = a descending and ascending movement.

To reach out, steer the foil deeper into the water (body weight forward, bend at the knees, weight on the front foot). To jump off, steer the foil upwards at a steeper angle (body weight backwards, weight on the back foot, legs stretched on take-off). This sequence of movements takes place in a flowing motion.

Make sure that the bottom of the board does not touch the water. This results in a loss of speed - the jump would be smaller.

In the air, you pull the wing towards you to assume a compact body position for the short gliding flight. The legs are then stretched again for landing. There are two impact moments: that of the foil and that of the board.

With a lot of practice, you can manage to jump into foiling so that the board doesn’t touch the surface of the water.
