Switch Stance Tack - carved
The sharp turn
Tight turn – here's a slow-motion video of a carved turn. With plenty of lean, the turning radius becomes small. The front wing cuts through the water (this is called “breaching”).
You can see the technique in the video: Guide the wing toward the inside of the turn with one arm, while your back hand immediately grabs the wing and pulls it tight. This builds a lot of power in the wing, which helps when carving a tight turn.
Your body leans inward at a 45-degree angle. This is part of the technique, because the foil’s mast and your body always form a straight line when winging. The more you lean into the turn, the tighter the carved turn.
